The bible actually has a lot to say about these key questions. Ecclesiastes 3:7 7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; b, "A time to be silent and a time to speak." We will look at some of these passages: Proverbs 26:4-5 4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him. 5 Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit. Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Or you will also be like him. [5] Answer a fool as his folly deserves, That he not be wise in his own eyes. Jude 1:3 3 Beloved, while I was giving all diligence to write unto you of our common salvation, I was constrained to write unto you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered unto the saints. Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. 1 Peter 3:15 15 but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: `being' ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear: but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; Galatians 2:11 11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I resisted him to the face, because he stood condemned. Titus 1:9-11 9 holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict the gainsayers. 10 For there are many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision, 11 whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. [10] For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, [11] who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain. 2 Tim. 2:24-25 The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, [25] with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, Proverbs 9:7 7 He that correcteth a scoffer getteth to himself reviling; And he that reproveth a wicked man `getteth' himself a blot. He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, And he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself. Proverbs 23:9 9 Speak not in the hearing of a fool; For he will despise the wisdom of thy words. Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words. 2 Tim. 2:23 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. Titus 3:9 9 but shun foolish questionings, and genealogies, and strifes, and fightings about law; for they are unprofitable and vain. But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. Matthew 27:12-14 12 And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. 13 Then saith Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? 14 And he gave him no answer, not even to one word: insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly. And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He did not answer. [13] Then Pilate said to Him, "Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?"
